  • Over the past two weeks I’ve had 5 roofing companies quote a roof replacement. 4 of the companies were all within a few thousand of each other. (3 Owens Corning 2 GAF). All packages were the same level, same warranty and very comparable. The GAF quotes were the exact same products. Imagine my surprise when Alamo came in $13k more than the others. I will pay a higher cost if there is a clear difference in quality of product however the reviews for both products are pretty much the same. There is nothing that much more outstanding about the GAF product that would warrant a $13k higher bid. The salesperson repeatedly said he didn’t want to lose the job due to price - after he provided me with their quote - I told him where the others came in at. We have a larger home and it was brought up in conversation that we had moved here from IL and my husband was an engineer. I 100% they marked up this quote thinking we would just pay it. The sales person went all the way down to low $30k trying to get the job - there’s no way if $45k was the true cost they could decrease their price that much. Lesson of the day - ALWAYS ALWAYS GET MULTIPLE QUOTES. Do your research and understand the difference between product lines.
