  • "We hired Smart Choice because they did a good very similar job for our neighbor - at the time Kris worked largely alone with an occasional sub-contractor. Kris did little work on our job and used poor subcontractors. A brief list of the things that went wrong: the new block walls when filled with concrete as required literally exploded (made a huge mess and delayed the job as the problem needed to be fixed), the newly poured floor was too low and quite uneven, We needed 3 new hurricane windows, the major one came in far to large requiring removal of some of the new block (yes, we had a full set of blueprints.) The exterior painting required a 3rd coat - first was the wrong color, second didn't cover adequately. The duplex outlets were too high off the floor and greater in number than specified. The HVAC sub didn't follow the plan, AC was inadequate and we had to add a mini split after the fact. Smart choice blew out the 3 speed receiver in the new fan and replaced it with a single speed receiver. Worst of all, Kris substituted high end hurricane windows for a far cheap version - requiring us to spend more on window treatments and keep them closed almost all the time. Kris originally said the job would take 3 weeks - Covid hit and we encounter some supply chain problems but none than extended the project to the many months it took. Why didn't we fire Smart Choice - I just didn't want to start with some other contractor. We did withhold a small amount of money to CONTRIBUTE to the cost of fixing the floor, checking the electrical work and the window covering. Kris is argumentative when faced with complaints -"
