GAF has introduced a new, affordable cool shingle line with the launch of Timberline HD® Reflector Series™ Shingles in California. These shingles are rated by the Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC) for use in Title 24 projects — so California-based contractors can now offer homeowners a wider variety of color options with the iconic Timberline HD® look to meet their cool roofing needs. Timberline HD® Reflector Series™ Shingles reflect sunlight to help keep the attic and the home cooler, which may help save on cooling costs.* The seven colors available are Aged Chestnut, Coastal Slate, Sagewood, Sandalwood, Birchwood, Copper Canyon, and Golden Amber.
“Our goal is to provide our California-based customers with the same genuine wood-shake look and high-definition color options as our standard Timberline HD® Shingle line,” stated Dan Witte, steep-slope product manager. “The new Timberline HD® Reflector Series™ Shingle line uses an innovative technology to maintain color depth while bolstering reflectivity to comply with Title 24 cool roof requirements.”
These requirements are designed to help reduce the state’s energy consumption. The California Energy Commission estimates that its energy-efficiency standards have saved Californians more than $74 billion in reduced electricity bills since 1977.
The seven colors within the GAF Timberline HD® Reflector Series™ Shingle line join nine existing GAF cool roofing shingle colors. Combined, all sixteen options can be used to comply with Title 24 roofing product requirements, are rated by the Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC), and meet the Los Angeles Green Building Code. * Savings depend on various factors including, but not limited to, radiative properties of shingles installed, climate zone, utility rates, location, and HVAC equipment efficiency. For the radiative properties of CRRC-rated shingles, visit the CRRC’s Rated Products Directory at www.coolroofs.org/products.
