Working with Rhino Roofing has been the worst experience of any of my home improvement projects since becoming a homeowner. Here is my detailed experience to date.
I started working with Ken at Rhino Roofing in approximately May or June of 2024 because my roof was leaking. He quoted me, and ultimately, I moved forward with a new roof and fascia replacement. In addition, he set me up with a solar consult since the finance rates were cheaper with solar. I also did solar with their preferred and recommended vendor/partner.
The solar install was extremely smooth with zero issues. Paul and the team he has have been extremely easy to work with, very responsive, and answer all my questions. The exact opposite of Rhino. They started after 7AM and left my property clean.
I was very clear at the signing of the contract that work could not start prior to 7AM due to noise restrictions. I have some neighbors who follow that statue very faithfully, and I did not want a noise complaint filed. Ken assured me it would not be a problem and it would be communicated to the office. Every single day, they started prior to 7AM; even with me calling and speaking to the office, reminding them of the noise statues and the possibilities of me getting fined. I called every day to remind them not to come prior to 7AM and was ignored. I even spoke to the owner on one of the calls who seemed to not care. While I understand the summer heat can be brutal, my neighbors do have the right to have it quiet until 7AM.
I called and spoke to Ken about my overall dissatisfaction. It was at this time he told me that he mismeasured the fascia and needed more money from me. Cash or check as the finance paperwork had already been completed. At this point, I no longer wanted to work with Rhino, so I asked for him to cancel the fascia and credit back the financing.
I spoke to Ken again, letting him know that the crew that was coming out was leaving trash behind at the end of the day. Water bottles, wrappers, rusty nails, new nails, even a sun hat, etc. It was at this time Ken told me that my Akita bit one of the workers but was fine and did not seek medical treatment. What?! No medical treatment on an Akita bite? This made absolutely no sense to me. I called Ken numerous times to fact check the bite and waited nearly a week for him to admit it was not my dog.
The agreement was to keep my Akita in the house after 7AM; the time they were allowed to be on property. Before 7AM, she was outside using the bathroom and running around since she would have to be locked up for 8+ hours. However, once I heard them walking around or banging on the roof, usually around 6:30-6:45AM, she was promptly called into the house. I have no doggie dog, and she was secured inside.
Before accusing a dog of biting someone, know the facts. That can be a fatal accusation for an "aggressive breed."
It is now February 2025, and I'm still finding rusty roofing nails around my backyard. Each time, I am thankful that my dog hasn't stepped on one and needed veterinary care due to their negligence and lack of respect by leaving job sites dirty.
In addition, during the last rain, my brand new roof STILL LEAKS. The leak, while close to the old leaks, is in a new area.
Rhino Roofing brought a "Roofing forensic expert" by the name of Daniel, an employee of Rhino Roofing. He found that my less than 1 year old roof was void of warranty due to the solar install. He also found the roof leak was no leak roof leak at all? And suggested a soak of the side stucco to see if it was stucco failure? I have a video showing it was leaking from above, not the side.
Please note: there are NO solar panels where the leak is. In the 14 years I've owned the house, the roof has never leaked where it is now; however, after their roof replacement, it does.
They also were unable to provide proof of exactly how many pieces of plywood boards were actually replaced, though I have requested it numerous times. They have provided proof some but charged for a higher amount than what the pictures show.
