Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, GAF Camelot® II Shingles combine contemporary slate-inspired elegance with a custom color palette to conjure the romance of European architecture. They resemble a true stone, slate roof much more closely when you choose either Antique Slate or Royal Slate, two beautiful color options available for Camelot® II Shingles.

If you’re considering a slate roof but prefer an easier installation and a lighter product, you may also want to consider GAF Slateline® Shingles for that classic look with more convenience.

Both options from the GAF Designer Shingles collection create the appearance of slate at only a fraction of the cost of a traditional slate roof.

GAF Camelot® II Shingles come in a range of colors, including Charcoal, Antique Slate, Barkwood, Royal Slate, and Weathered Timber.

Check out our Virtual Home Remodeler to see what each shingle style and color looks like on your home. Please note that picking the right shingle color for your home is important. Computer and smartphone screens may represent image colors differently. So, once you've selected your favorite colors, be sure to ask your contractor for shingle samples to see how they'll look in real life.

GAF Camelot® II Shingles should use a minimum of 3/8" thick (10 mm) plywood or OSB decking. Do NOT fasten shingles directly to insulation or insulated deck unless authorized in writing by GAF. Roof decks and existing surfacing material must be dry prior to installation of shingles. Learn more about Camelot® II installation instructions and the best practices for contractors.

GAF Camelot® II Shingles are made bigger and thicker than the average architectural shingle to pass the UL 2218 Class 4 Impact-Resistance Test.1

Testing performed under controlled laboratory conditions by Certerra Analytical - PRI. GAF makes no express or implied warranty about the impact performance of these products against hail. The cost of GAF Camelot® II Shingles can vary significantly as roofing contractors consider many variables when preparing your roof cost estimate, including:

  • Home size – The size of your roof is the biggest cost factor. Cost per square usually includes materials and installation.
  • Slope and pitch – The pitch and complexity of the roof may influence the roofing materials selected, which will also impact cost.
  • Location – The area you live in — its cost of living, climate, local building codes and permit requirements — are variables that also factor into the cost of your new roof.

To understand replacement costs specific to your roof, your preferences, your budget, and your goals, find a contractor near you today. Contractors seeking pricing should contact their Territory Manager or distribution partner for more information.

GAF Camelot® II Shingles are installed as part of a complete roofing system, featuring multiple layers that work together to create a durable system.
