How do you know if your roof is right for solar?

Regardless of the potential benefits, not every roof is ideal for solar. GAF considers a solar-ideal roofing system to be one that:

Structurally strong

Built to be weight-bearing to support a significant amount of overburden.*

Cover board & reflective membrane

Includes cover board to distribute weight and a reflective membrane that can help maximize solar performance.

Solar-friendly area

The roof should be exposed to direct sunlight for enough hours of the day to ensure efficient PV performance.

Roof guarantee strength & length

Has a roof guarantee or warranty that approximately matches the Solar PV system warranty in duration and terms.

* All structural evaluations should be conducted by a licensed structural engineer through stamped drawings and calculations. GAF is not responsible for conducting such an evaluation. Any inspections conducted by GAF are for GAF's sole benefit in determining suitability of the roofing system for guarantee coverage.

GAF offers the GAF WellRoof^® Guarantee Extension — through our PlatinumElite™ Commercial Contractors — which extends the duration of GAF Diamond Pledge™ NDL Roof Guarantees by up to 25% for eligible roofs.* The roof must be inspected annually by your PlatinumElite™ Commercial Contractor and additional requirements and restrictions apply.
