Sustainability through shingle recycling

With more than 13 million tons of industry-wide shingle waste generated from shingle tear-offs each year, GAF is taking action by establishing transfer stations and processing plants designed to collect and reuse some of this material in innovative new ways. The goal of the GAF RoofCycle™ process is to divert waste away from landfills and convert it into high-quality technologies society can use across various industries every day.

Recycling asphalt shingles for industrial applications

The GAF RoofCycle™ process breaks down shingle waste into three byproducts, taking the form of mineralized asphalt powder, briquettes, and rock granules. These reclaimed materials can either be used to produce new, high-quality asphalt shingles, or they can be incorporated into industrial applications for roads, pavement, and infrastructure.

Post-consumer circularity comes full circle

The GAF RoofCycle™ process reclaims waste from shingle tear-offs and transforms it into high-quality resources for new manufacturing. This process effectively closes the production loop, driving a circular economy by returning reclaimed content back into usable materials.
