GAF Timberline HDZ® Shingles are considered architectural shingles. Unlike 3-tab shingles, architectural shingles are made by bonding multiple layers of asphalt and fiberglass together to create a distinct, 3D textured appearance. This approach makes them stronger and more durable than 3-tab shingles with enhanced aesthetics and better warranties.
The most popular color options from the GAF Timberline HDZ® Shingles High Definition® collection include Weathered Wood, Charcoal, Pewter Gray, Barkwood, and Shakewood. These colors are designed to create exceptional depth and dimension with patented shadow bands.
Customers seeking a shingle that makes a statement can choose from Timberline HDZ® Bold Definition colors, bursting with rich tones and striking contrasts curated to deliver distinct looks that never go out of style. Inspired by GAF’s top-four selling High Definition® colors, the Bold Definition collection offers the same tones homeowners love, now creating a different impact on the roof:
• Chestnut Valley is GAF’s Bold take on Barkwood
• Cliffside is GAF’s Bold take on Pewter Gray
• Midnight Mesa is GAF’s Bold take on Charcoal
• Sierra Sand is GAF’s Bold take on Weathered Wood
Timberline HDZ® Shingles offer a wide range of additional colors beyond these popular selections. To view even more, check out our Virtual Home Remodeler to see what each shingle style and color looks like on your home.
Please note that picking the right shingle color for your home is important. Computer and smartphone screens may represent image colors differently. So, once you’ve selected your favorite colors, be sure to ask your contractor for shingle samples to see how they’ll look in real life.

Costs can vary significantly as roofing contractors consider many variables when preparing your roof cost estimate, including:
• Home size – The size of your roof is typically the biggest cost factor. Cost per square usually includes materials and installation.
• Slope and pitch – The pitch and complexity of the roof also influences cost.
• Location – The area you live in — its cost of living, climate, local building codes and permit requirements — are variables that also factor into the cost of your new roof.
To understand replacement costs specific to your roof, your preferences, your budget, and your goals, find a contractor near you today. Contractors seeking pricing should contact their Territory Manager or distribution partner for more information.
