The roof replacement process usually starts when you notice water damage inside your home (brown stains, bubbling paint, dripping water) or roof damage outside your home (loose, cracked, or buckling shingles), or when you know your roof is old enough to require proactive improvement. The contractor you choose to repair or replace your roof will provide direction on how to prepare your home. While all roof projects differ, you can expect to be asked to clear space for a dumpster and for product delivery. Be mindful of children and pets’ safety throughout the project. Keep your home’s exterior free from clutter, and protect fragile interior items from hammer vibrations and possible dust and debris.
Every roof repair or replacement job is different, however a typical residential roof replacement should take 1–2 days. An average U.S. home requires approximately 25 roof squares, which covers approximately 2,500 square feet of roof area. An experienced contractor should be able to remove or “tear off” the existing roof system down to the decking and install the new system in two working days. Roof replacement projects of greater size or complexity, or projects displaying obvious structural damage, Be warned that rare cases of damaged, or otherwise insufficient, roof decking—only revealed after roof removal—might affect timing and costs.
