  • "We had Homestar Inc in to quote us for a kitchen remodel. They were one of few companies we talked to. Their quote was really high compared to the others, but could start they said. Our Kitchen is small so we thought $20,000 was going to for sure make our dream kitchen, even though we thought it was a lot. We signed on for them to start in May (We paid $8000 up front). In the quote, they were supplying the sink, faucets, hood fan, flooring...We spoke with the project manager and bought these items ourselves, which he said was fine. It wasn't until October that our kitchen reno started. Which was fine. With covid we didn't expect quick. The communication between the project manager, his team and us was about a 2-3 out of five. We felt like we had to be around to answer questions when the two guys were working because we weren't sure how involved we needed to be. A few times the staff would ask us questions about placement, what was supposed to be done, etc. At one point one of the contractors asked me if we wanted him to put the baseboards back up because baseboards wasn't included in the new kitchen. I replied with "For $20000, I would hope that my kitchen is complete. Baseboards are part of the finishing". One of the carpenters responded with "$20,000 nothing, we do kitchens far more expensive (or something along those lines)". After a couple of weeks they just had to do finishing touches...which we had a list. Those finishing touches were not completely communicated from the project manager to the staff, because they weren't done or not done well. The project manager seemed busy and almost as though our small kitchen wasn't a priority. We didn't see them again until March. Again, most of the items we talked about with the project manager, wasn't completed. The carpenter left saying he would order a part that was needed for the end of one of the counters. We have heard nothing from them until this last week or so. It was an email from their accountant with our bill attached, still including "supply and install" to things like the sink, faucet, flooring, cabinet handles, and hood vent, which I purchased ahead of time. Also, some of the trim at the top of the cabinets was not actually attached and had already fallen down. Not to mention that cabinet design just wasn't as good as we thought. One of the pull out drawers dragged along the sink side of our counters the first weeks it was installed, scratching the counter it dragged against. The doors and drawers don't all line up. They use plastic or silicone bumpers that are adhered with a sticker back...Most of which fell off in the first few weeks of use using our give you the illusion that they line up. Finishing touches were a weak point for them for sure. Of course we responded with the job is not done, but at this point I am wanting to fix the things myself and move on. I will not pay them until we (the customers) are satisfied. I hate leaving a bad review. However, our dream kitchen we thought we were getting is sub par."

  • "I am a service professional and I don't recommend using Home Stars. I have been trying to cancel our paid membership and it is impossible to reach someone. The sales team redirects to a number which nobody picks up. Sent an email 1 month ago and absolutely no reply. Talking to my bank now to cancel my credit card because it is impossible to cancel Homestar membership."
