GAF Donates New Roof to Paralyzed Former Athlete and His Family on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition

GAF, North America’s largest roofing and ventilation manufacturer, is participating in yet another episode of the ABC network program, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, donating a full roofing system to a paralyzed young man and his family.  The show will air on Friday, October 21 at 8pm EST.

Ty Pennington and his Extreme Makeover: Home Edition crew will be traveling to Etters, PA to build a new home for Brian Keefer and his family. Brian was a star athlete who became paralyzed after a terrible gymnastics injury just twelve days before his 21st birthday in 2008. He had been a volleyball player and coach, record-holding track and field athlete, and president of his college’s gymnastics club, when he found himself suddenly paralyzed from the neck down.

With Brian needing 24-hour care, his father Steve left his job of over 30 years to move onto the college campus and be Brian’s primary care aide, helping him work towards realizing his dream of graduating from college. Now living at the family home, Brian is limited to only a few downstairs rooms of the house, as most of the house is not accessible to him in his wheelchair.

The EMHE design team will be installing a full GAF roofing system, including Timberline® HD™  shingles, both to the main family house as well as a connected home with a separate entrance for Brian. These shingles feature GAF’s Advanced Protection™ technology, which offers improved performance, including superior wind resistance, while being more environmentally friendly due to lower unnecessary material usage. Timberline® HD™ shingles pass the industry’s two toughest wind tests: ASTM D3161 Class F 110 mph and ASTM D7158 Class H 150 mph and carry a lifetime limited warranty.
