GAF Materials Corporation and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Sponsor Golf Tournament

GAF Materials Corporation will be sponsoring the J.D. Hasselbach memorial Golf Tournament on October 7, 2010 at the TPC Tampa Bay in Lutz, FL. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and for members of the West Coast Roofing Contractors Association who participate in the tournament, registration fees will go towards the association.

Now in its third year, the tournament honors former GAF Vice President of the Southeast Area and former President of the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association (ARMA), J.D. Hasselbach, who passed away in 2008. During his career with GAF, Hasselbach won the President’s Leadership Award for outstanding leadership among his peers in 2002 and 2004. In 2003 and 2005, JD was awarded Sales Area of the Year for top performance in revenue and profit within the GAF Materials Corporation family.

He is also remembered by the roofing community as a visionary who lead ARMA through some of its most dynamic times, including the post-Hurricane Andrew period in South Florida, when code changes were defeated that would have eliminated asphalt shingles from the South Florida roofing market; defeating the potential built-up roofing aggregate ban in Broward County, Florida, and his leadership and work with the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s promulgation of the Maximum Attainable Control Technology Standard.

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is the worldwide leader for research to cure type 1 diabetes and is the largest charitable funder and advocate of diabetes science worldwide. Its mission is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that strikes children and adults suddenly, with complications that may include kidney failure, blindness, heart disease, stroke, and amputation. Even worse, the disease can be fatal and currently has no cure.
